The cycloalkanes with ring sizes larger than cyclohexane lack symmetry and bear some tension, until we reach cyclotetradecane wide enough for the carbons to adop the perfect zig-zag conformation attained in acyclic linear alkanes.

In cycloalkanes different from cyclohexane there are not truly axial and equatorial positions. These are found again for cyclotetradecane and superior cycloalkanes.
