Cis-but-2-ene is less stable than its trans isomer by 1 kcal/mol and, due to that, it quickly interconverts to the trans isomer.
El cis-2-buteno es en verdad menos estable por 1 kcal/mol que su isómero trans. Pero NO SE INTERCONVIERTEN porque para ello hay que pasar por un ET donde el enlace "pi" se rompe y eso cuesta unas 60 kcal/mol de energía de activación que no se sobrepasan a temperatura ambiente.
Cis-but-2-ene is truly less stable than its trans isomer by 1 kcal/mol but THEY DO NOT INTERCONVERT one another because, in order to do that, the molecule has to go through a TS where the "pi" bond is broken and that costs ca. 60 kcal/mol of activation energy that cannot be surmounted at room temperature.
