The alcohol function has in general low priority when found with other functional groups. It is frequently named as a secondary function.Image
MAIN FUNCTION The main chain is the longest containing the hydroxyl group (OH). The name of the main chain is suffixed with -ol. The OH localizer should be the lowest possible number.Image Non-systematic, trivial names can be used in the case of common, simple alcohols.
SECONDARY FUNCTION Each OH group is named as hidroxi.   If there are more than one, the prefixes di-, tri-, tetra-, etc are used. The localizer number(s) should be the lowest possible regarding the main function.Image
